🤔 What's the VERY BEST WAY to kick off the New Year? A tour of ADI, of course! 💚 Just ahead of Rosh Hashanah, the incredible gap year students from Torah Tech visited ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran to hear about our miraculous survival on October 7, learn about disability care and inclusion l, and interact with our ADI family members. As they toured the expansive rehabilitation village, they were overwhelmed by its size and scope, and noticeably moved by the specialized care and personal attention received by each and every resident, special education student and rehabilitation patient. The Torah Tech students can't wait for their next visit to ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, and they look forward to representing ADI at the Jerusalem and Tel Aviv Marathons. As per tradition, we know that they will also be the life of the party at the Third 'Race for Inclusion' in December! ♿🏃🏼‍♀️🏅

🤝🏻 MAKING CONNECTIONS IN THE NEW YEAR: 🔗❤️
In an effort to help our ADI family members start the New Year with a smile, the youth at Temple Beth Shalom in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, made beautiful Multisensory Rosh Hashanah Cards just for them. As you can see, Temple Beth Shalom's kind creators were wildly successful! 😃 This year, 40+ schools and congregations across North America will embrace inclusive projects like these via our 'ADI Bechinuch' Disability Inclusion Programming, a collection of virtual and interactive modules developed by ADI's special educators that highlight the importance of disability inclusion, equity and access, and transform students into disability advocates and agents of change in their own communities. It's going to be a year of exceptional empowerment! 💪🏻♿

🎗️🇮🇱 WE REMEMBER: ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran's administration, professional staff, volunteers and rehabilitation patients gathered to mark the first anniversary of the October 7 massacre and to honor the memory of those who were taken from us on that horrific day and in the 12 painful months since. Among the participants were Kaylie Rehabilitation Medical Center patients Yair Wizner, who was injured while protecting Kibbutz Keren Shalom; Rabbi Shahar Butzhak, who was wounded while fighting off terrorists in Ofakim; and Aviad Bachar, who, together with his 13 year-old daughter, Hadar, escaped the violent incursion into Kibbutz Be’eri with severe injuries but lost his wife, Dana, and son, Carmel. Former ADI Negev employee Ofri Bibas, whose brother, Yarden Bibas, is still being held captive in Gaza, also addressed the crowd. As we continue to heal the minds, bodies and souls of Israel's southern residents at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, we pray for the strength and success of the IDF soldiers and the safe return of the remaining hostages. SYMBOLS OF STRENGTH: 💪🏻🇮🇱 ADI employs a simple but brilliant augmentative alternative communication (AAC) system to help residents and special education students with severe disabilities express their feelings, wishes and emotions. In the classroom, at the hydrotherapy pool and during vocational training classes, AAC cards with clear and colorful pictures allow ADI family members to communicate everything from their current mood to the color marker they wish to use to their urgent need for a hug. It also helps them participate in group activities and better understand the world around them. After overhearing so many conversations about the Israeli Air Force (IAF), the ADI residents and special education students were curious, and more than a little concerned. So, our exceptional staff created special ACC symbols to help calm their fears, boost their morale and reassure them that the IAF and IDF would continue to keep all of Israel safe and secure. While it saddens us that this is still a topic of conversation after a full year, it is alway uplifting to see empowerment and inclusion in action, and it makes us hopeful for a brighter and kinder future. 🙏🏻❤️

📬 YOU'VE GOT MAIL!🍎🍯 With Rosh Hashanah just a day away, Jews around the world are furiously firing off texts and e-mails to family and friends to wish them a happy and sweet New Year. At ADI, our special educators created an accessible program that allows our residents and students to get in on the action. Following instructive cues on specialized tablets, ADI family members of all levels of ability can use their fingers or eyes to choose between different styles of e-cards and send them via email to their parents, siblings and friends. Just a few taps or blinks, and their closest kin receive a heartfelt holiday greeting. Here's to another year filled with sweet empowerment! 💪🏻🐝
