🕯WE WILL NEVER FORGET! Yesterday, a very speci 🕯WE WILL NEVER FORGET! Yesterday, a very special ceremony was held at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran to mark Yom Hashoah (Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day). In the presence of Holocaust survivors from Israel’s south, Mr. Shai Hajaj, the head of the Merhavim Regional Council, and Mrs. Alicia Yakovy, founder of the Shem Vener (‘A Name and A Candle’) Association, presentations were made by four German volunteers – members of the March of Life organization – about the unthinkable acts perpetrated by their Nazi grandparents, and how they are working to atone for these sins by caring for the most vulnerable members of Israeli society. These young women and men chose to volunteer with the ADI residents and special education students out of love and with a sincere desire to help build a world of kindness. They are simultaneously breaking down walls and breaking the silence, raising their voices against anti-Semitism, eradicating prejudice and promoting the uncompromising belief in the equality of all people. Their brave and selfless actions give hope to the Jewish people, the German people and all of humanity.Today, our greatest test is to love, include and ensure the best quality of life for individuals with disabilities, those who cannot act or speak for themselves. These exceptional youth volunteers are making amends and advancing humanity by helping us create a better, more caring society.𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 – 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵. ❤️ 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗹 ♿As the Nazis conquered Holland during World War II, Amsterdam native Wilfred Spangenthal was sent off to the Theresienstadt concentration camp together with his mother and brother, cruelly separated from their father/husband, who was shipped to Auschwitz. Though the three of them were liberated by the Soviet Army two years later, Wilfred’s father did not survive. In the years that followed, Wilfred’s mother remarried, and the family left the Netherlands to establish themselves in Canada. Shortly after their arrival in their new home, Wilfred’s brother passed away from kidney failure rooted in the distress he experienced in Theresienstadt.A true survivor, Wilfred worked hard to support organizations in the Netherlands, Suriname and Israel throughout his life. Upon his passing, Wilfred left a lasting gift to the Collectieve Israel Actie, the Dutch chapter of Keren Hayesod, through which his gift was distributed to the children of ADI. This generous donation allowed ADI Jerusalem to renovate its first floor, creating accessible bathrooms and washrooms, as well as aesthetic bedrooms, a family room and professional areas, enhancing the children’s surroundings and improving their overall quality of life.Recalling his own suffering as a child and the untimely passing of his brother, Wilfred wanted to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable people and children in Israel. The legacy of caring he established at ADI ensures that our residents with severe disabilities will live, learn and play for years to come in an atmosphere that promotes health, wellness, growth and advancement.💚 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗗𝗜 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗗𝗜’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 – 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘: https://adi-il.org/legacy-giving/ 💚#ADI #Ability #Diversity #Inclusion #Disabled #Disability #LegacyGiving
🐶 PUPPY POWER! 🐶 For years, puppy therapy ha 🐶 PUPPY POWER! 🐶 For years, puppy therapy has helped the ADI residents grow and thrive. Research has shown that the act of petting a dog reduces blood pressure and improves general health. The tactile stimulation also helps our residents with physical disabilities develop their fine motor skills in a similar way to physiotherapy activities. But more than anything, playing with dogs makes the ADI residents smile, and this positivity allows them to develop socially, emotionally and physically. Our furry friends provide a gateway to advancement!adi-israel.org #ADI #Ability #Diversity #Inclusion #Disabled #Disability

🗳️ DEMOCRACY LIVES AT ADI! 🇮🇱 Yesterday 🗳️ DEMOCRACY LIVES AT ADI! 🇮🇱 Yesterday, an official voting station was set up at ADI Jerusalem to allow all essential medical staff to vote over the course of their work day. This intrigued the residents, and they wanted to get in on the action. So, our amazing volunteers organized a mock election, including the selection of six candidates, the creation of campaign posters, and the casting of ballots. It was a wonderful day full of experiencial education and fun that highlighted the importance of democracy and the power of each person's vote. When everyone is included and heard, we all win!🙌🏻adi-israel.org #ADI #Ability #Diversity #Inclusion #Disabled #Disability

At Eshkol National Park in the Northern Negev, they stretched out on the lush green grass to soak in the sun and spent hours enjoying the cool water in the wading pools. A very welcome change of pace. May it be a sign of great things to come! 🙏🌈adi-israel.org #ADI #Ability #Diversity #Inclusion #Disabled #Disability

ADI Jerusalem’s ‘Talking Library’ is an innovative hands-on tactile library program that enables children with severe intellectual and motor disabilities to experience the joys of reading. The impressive library includes hundreds of story kits that accommodate a range of ages and varied interests. With Passover just around the corner, a very important title was added to the ever-growing collection: The Passover Haggadah! Just like every other book or short story in this special library, The Passover Haggadah kit includes puppets and concrete objects relating to the story which serve as aids to comprehension. In addition, pictures, communication symbols and augmentative communication devices assist nonverbal children with communication so they can participate in the Seder.
