Living the Legacy

Maya Fischer and young girl with disabilities מיה פישר וילדה עם מגבלויות

“We all hope that our lives and the lives of our loved ones will be imbued with humanity.” Rhoda Fischer, a”h

At age 12, Maya Fischer is living the legacy of her grandmother, Rhoda Fischer, a”h, past honorary president of ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran.

Maya opted to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah, her entry into adulthood as per Jewish tradition, by reaching out to befriend, benefit and better the life of Sarah, a young special education student who was born into a life so different than her own. In sharing her Bat Mitzvah with Sarah, Maya infuses extra value and meaning into this notable junction in her life.

In addition to sponsoring a fun and exciting Bat Mitzvah party for Sarah and her family, Maya chose to build on her grandmother’s love of nature and raise funds to provide Sarah and her entire special education class with a full year of green gardening therapy. Fittingly, the classes’ therapeutic gardening activity will concentrate on caring for the shrubberies and plants in the Rhoda Fischer Memorial Garden, the therapeutic garden named in memory of Maya’s grandmother.

As Maya leaves the childhood years and progresses to adulthood and responsibility, she follows in the footsteps of her illustrious family, living the legacy of caring and fulfilling her grandmother’s heartfelt desire that the lives of her loved ones be imbued with humanity.

Mazal Tov, Maya. May you continue being as source of pride and joy to your parents, your family and The Jewish Nation.
