Festival Darom and ADI Ofakim Partner for Three Days of Cultural Festivities

Beit HaYotzer, the ADI Ofakim Vocational Center teamed up with Festival Darom, Ofakim’s annual Festival of the South, to host a three-day multidisciplinary cultural community event last week, prior to the onset of the holiday of Shavuot.

The integrative and innovative festival was held in coordination with many of Ofakim Municipality’s city departments and community representatives, including the Ofakim Youth Center, the Ofakim Community Center, Tifadal, M’Dor L’Dor, Panim el Panim, the Ayalim Ofakim Student Village, Hosen L’Ofakim and more.

“One of the things that art knows how to do,” commented Yair Vardi, the festival’s artistic director, “is to look at reality and recognize how to create a new, alternative reality.”

ADI Ofakim Vocational Center played a major role in this year’s festival. In addition to holding integrative ceramic workshops during the day, led by Vocational Center employees, Beit HaYotzer hosted the three evenings of cultural events, including musical performances, stand-up comedy acts, dances, lectures and social gatherings complete with a food and drink bar.

Festival Darom is the first of what ADI Ofakim Vocational Center – Beit HaYotzer anticipates to be ongoing activity at the newly established Cultural Enterprise, serving as a medium for continued integrative activity between Ofakim’s various cultural entities and vocational center participants.
