Aliya Throughout the Years – Artistic Exhibit Celebrating 70 Years of Independence

As happens each year, a current events topic corresponding to the Ministry of Education’s chosen subject of study was picked as the theme for school activities throughout the year. In ADI Bnei Brak, as in schools all over the country, students took an active part learning about this year’s  topic, 70 Years for the State of Israel,  and bringing the topic to life.

ADI Bnei Brak chose to expound on Israel’s 70th year by exploring the subject of aliya.

Each grade in the school chose a different aliya related topic: aliya from Morocco, aliya from Yemen, aliya from the former Soviet Union, aliyat hamapilim (immigration during the Mandate Era), and Aliya L’Regel (the custom of coming up to Jerusalem on each of Judaism’s three main holidays).

During the Purim holiday, each class brought their subject of study to life by dressing up in era-appropriate costumes, learning about customs and life in the countries of origin, ethnic habits, famous Rabbinic figures, characteristic foods and more.

Art class projects throughout the year were based on the aliya theme, using multi-sensory activities to involve students in preparing a huge paper mache exhibit to display the various cultures.

The ADI Bnei Brak exhibit, “Everyone Gathered and Came,” will open on Thursday, May 31, at 10:00 AM at Beit Yahalom in Bnei Brak.

We look forward to seeing you at the exhibit!
