🎶 🥁 🎺 MUSIC EMPOWERS! 💪🏻♿ Music touches the souls of our ADI family members and draws out their greatest potentials. Listening to music both excites and calms them, and playing instruments themselves promotes self-fulfillment and advances motor capabilities. Often, we are able to better understand their personalities by the instruments they choose and how they use it to express themselves. And all of their physical exertion is rewarded with the music they create – a physical and emotional achievement they can immediately appreciate. At ADI, we provide our residents and special education students with the tools and experiences they need for optimal health, maximized potential and the best possible quality of life! 🙌🏻

🛩️☁️ EVEN THE SKY'S NOT THE LIMIT: On Friday, September 6, more than a dozen rehabilitation patients from ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran took to the southern Israel skies with pilots from the Ananim organization for a cathartic and uplifting experience that set the tone for the new year. With residents from ADI Jerusalem looking on, Ananim founder Shay Shimon and 30 other pilots gave personal aerial tours of the Negev to exuberant war-wounded soldiers and civilians who are rehabbing at the Kaylie Rehabilitation Medical Center at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran - the first and only rehabilitation medical center in Israel's south. In addition to providing a moment of joy during the ongoing Iron Swords War, the flights also represented a respite from each person's complex battle with disability and a metaphor for hope, progress and reaching beyond one's limitations to uncharted potential.

In attendance was Major General (Res.) Doron Almog, Founder of ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, Israel Prize Laureate, and Chairman of the Executive of the Jewish Agency for Israel, who was deeply moved by the inspirational initiative.

"This event and partnership is perfect, because empowering those with challenges and providing them with opportunities to feel equal is exactly what we do at our ADI centers," said Almog. "Today, we did something truly special by allowing those in the middle of their rehabilitative journeys to touch the sky, giving them a glimpse of what's possible with hard work and dedication and reminding them that they aren't alone."

We are so grateful to Shay Shimon, all of the pilots from Ananim and everyone else involved in this exceptional event. Thank you for helping us lift the spirits of our ADI family members and encourage them to soar towards their greatest potentials! 🙏🏻❤️

🫂❤️ WRAPPED IN LOVE: Though ADI's professional staff and volunteers have the honor and privilege of serving as the "extended family" who help our residents reach their greatest potentials, the residents' parents remain very active in their lives and visit regularly. The angelic human pictured here is the father of a resident in ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran's High Dependency Unit. He visits *every morning* to wrap his son in tallit and tefillin (a prayer shawl and phylacteries) so they can pray together. While he can't be with his son at all times, he makes sure to start each day with the transmission of deep love and core values. This unwavering dedication reminds us of our responsibilities to the residents and their families. In addition to providing countless opportunities for empowerment and advancement, we are always striving to reach that parental level of devotion by doing everything possible to wrap the residents in love.

🩺❤️ ROBIN'S REMARKABLE RETURN: In February, Dr. Robin (Rivky) Akselrud, an Occupational Therapist and Program Director at Hofstra University School of Health in New York, put her busy life on hold to volunteer together with three of her OT students at ADI Jerusalem. She so enjoyed the experience, that she vowed to return to Israel to assist the ADI family in the months ahead. When she heard that the Kaylie Rehabilitation Medical Center at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran was in need of OTs to help heal the war-wounded civilian and military heroes of the Negev, she dropped everything (again) and made her way to southern Israel for a second round of volunteering. For two weeks in August, Robin spent her days working with a roster of grateful patients and her nights marveling at the beauty and scope of the rehabilitation village.

"As an OT and a professor, I find great joy and purpose in my work, and volunteering at ADI Negev took those emotions to the next level," said Robin, when reflecting on her whirlwind volunteering adventure. "I was mesmerized and inspired by my patients' stories of pain, resilience and recovery, and helping them restore function was a life-changing experience. It was so gratifying to see that I was directly impacting their lives with every sessions."

"I was also blown away by the professional staff and the facilities at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran - it is unlike anything I have ever seen before. It's 'the village that never sleeps,' and it's filled with people whose singular focus is empowering others. I witnessed OTs treating their patients like members of their own families, and I felt an aura of love and camaraderie in every corner of this extraordinary community. It's a wonder to behold, and I can't wait to return!"
